Architectural Energy Corporation is 25 years old! We are excited and proud to have been helping our clients achieve their energy efficiency and environmental design goals for 25 years.
When we started Architectural Energy Corporation in 1982, we wanted to link research to practice to improve the energy and environmental performance of the built environment. Since this time, we have steadily built a diverse business which integrates with the building delivery and operation process at many strategic points. We have been assisted by many talented and dedicated staff and by many supportive and generous clients.

We provide energy, daylighting and sustainable design assistance, including LEED® Certification services to architects, engineers and their clients throughout the U.S., and the world.
We are experts in evaluating the impact of commercial kitchen food preparation and ventilation equipment on restaurant performance.
We have developed an innovative and patented HVAC fault detection and diagnostic system — ENFORMA® Building Diagnostics™.
We are the leading providers of home energy rating software — REM/Rate™.
We are leading providers of building commissioning services, including LEED-related building commissioning services, throughout the U.S.
We have assisted the Onset Computer Corporation, developers of the Hobo line of portable data acquisition products, to create a new data logger — Energy Pro Logger™ — to replace our MicroDataLogger® data acquisition system.
We have managed seven (6) Public Interest Energy Programs (PIER) for the California Energy Commission:
- Energy Efficient and Affordable Small Commercial and Residential Buildings Research Program
- Advanced Automated HVAC Fault Detection and Diagnostics Commercialization Program
- Utility-Focused Market Model for Zero Energy New Homes Program
- Lighting Research Program I
- Lighting Research Program II
- Advanced HVAC Systems for Improving Indoor Environmental Quality and Energy Performance of California K-12 Schools Program
We have conducted seven (7) PIER projects for the California Energy Commission:
- Large Commercial HVAC Guidelines
- Thermal Displacement Ventilation in Schools
- Integrated Design of Small Commercial HVAC Systems
- SPOT - Sensor Placement and Optimization Tool
- Pattern Recognition-Based Fault Detection and Diagnostics
- Web-Enabled Automatic Diagnostics
- Advanced Rooftop Unit Specification
We are conducting assessments of five (5) innovative new technologies developed in PIER-funded programs at University of California (UC) and California State University (CSU) campuses.
We provide technical assistance to PG&E and SCE to help them assess technology performance and develop rebates.
We are providing program management support for the retro-commissioning programs sponsored by all of the major investor-owned utilities in California (SDG&E, SCE, and PG&E).
We have assisted in the impact evaluation of California's Savings by Design new commercial building DSM program since 2000.
We have assisted the California Energy Commission maintain and update the Title 24 Energy Code since the California Energy Commission was first created in 1978.
We have developed the VisualDOE building energy analysis simulation.
We have provided building energy codes and standards research and implementation services to Hawaii, Guam, India, Oregon, ASHRAE, Australia, American Samoa, New Mexico, New York, Idaho, Russia, the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and the Northern Marianna Islands.
We provide Executive Director, communication, and research services to the Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS).
We provide building energy audit, evaluation and retro-commissioning services throughout the U.S. to corporations, government agencies, and utilities.
